NEW BOUTIQUE...NEW BLOG!!

Hello dear friends! I apologize for being so out of touch for so long...but I have a good reason! I have not had time to blog because I have been super busy opening a NEW BOUTIQUE! We just opened our doors to our new shop, WEBSTER ROAD, on Saturday! We are located in the quaint, seaside town of Mystic, Connecticut (about 5 mins away from our home!).

The store was a huge undertaking... but well worth it in the end. The space that we took over was painted in literally three of the worst shades of blue ever, had a gross old blue/gray carpet (ripped that right up!), and was in major need of a facelift! My fiance spend days in there painting many, many coats of fresh white paint...and a little dark navy too on the front and back walls. He removed the existing three giant dark brown ceiling fans and replaced them with fresh clean new white ones. We also had a new mahogany and tigerwood floor put in (which turned out to be a disaster...long story).

So, the space is looking great and we have filled it with tons of great things from Thomas Paul, Ame & Lulu, Smathers & Branson, Rifle Paper Co., Egg Press, French Bull, Votivo...the list goes on and on! We like to tell people that if you need something for your beach house you can find it in our store--whether it's new dishes, a soft cotton throw, a cute new apron, a beautiful wooden bench made from reclaimed wood or a new book to curl up with!

With the new store comes a new blog!

this morning i was checking out tabletonic blog and she had posted this cool new website, Wordle where you can make your own word clouds so i thought i would try it out myself! i put in my blog address and it generated this cloud using words from my blog. apparently the larger words are the words i use more frequently... i'm trying to figure out how it is possible that i use the word "pool" so much! hmm...

so i've been perusing the NM 2010 Christmas Book and have decided that all of the above are must haves...if you have an endless supply of cash...which i don't. BUT a girl can dream can't she?! we don't have a pool, but if we did you can bet i'd be on the phone ordering my fiance a lovely Chihuly pool installation for a mere $1,500,000.00! i mean it would just make the pool THAT much better! we would also need some way to get around our large property that we would have if we had this pool, so i would also have to order the Tory Burch family chariot electric tricycle! it's too cute!

lime green is definitely not a color that i ever go to when buying something for my house or clothing... i'm not really a huge fan, but i do love the way it is used in these photos above. some rooms have way too much lime green for me to live with if it was my own home, but i still think it works and looks amazing! photo #11 is my absolute favorite-- something i could absolutely live with! i also like the lime color paint in a kids room... as long as it's kept with the cottage feeling there i think it works. what do you think? to lime or not to lime? do you have lime green in your house anywhere? if so i'd love to see photos- send them along!

the other day i was talking to one of my fiance's adorable little cousins about her new bedroom that she is planning on decorating. she will be sharing this room with her sister and they have decided that they want the room to be blue and green. the house is in a coastal town so they want it to be "beachy"... so i thought i would dig up some fun rooms to inspire them as they are plotting and planning their design!
i love all of these rooms above...the colors are fresh, beachy and fun! there are tons of cool ideas that they can take away from each photo! my favorite things are-- image 1: the turquoise drawer pulls on the white furniture, image 2: the yellow striped duvets, image 3: the two shades of green striped walls and bright green chair, image 4: the polkadot bedding and paper lanterns, image 5: the soft blue and green paint colors and mirror over the bed, image 6: the fabric draped from the ceiling and the blue paint color on the walls, image 7: (i know they wanted blue and green, but i had to put this in there because it is SO cute!) i love the pink paint on walls and fabric on pillows, lampshade and chair, image 8: i love how the room is painted white with the bright blue and green bed and i LOVE that brown polkadot bench!

i love these blue wallpapered rooms! blue is definitely one of my favorite top three colors and I love how you can really go in lots of different directions with it... coastal/nautical, modern, classic etc.

so i've been thinking about pink dining rooms...i like it, but not sure if i could live with it. i suppose if my entire house went beautifully along with the pink dining room it would be ok... but it might be quite the challenge to get it all looking nice without going overboard on the pinks! i do love all of these rooms above on their own though. what do you think? would you ever commit to dining in pink?

after watching the movie HELVETICA tonight, and then going about my nightly blogging i came across this amazing blog lox papers! the movie got me on a total graphic design kick tonight (as if i'm not on one everyday as it is!) and then lox papers completely added to it and so... on this fabulous little blog i found these super cool book covers which gave me the idea for fun room inspirations! all of the book covers are by alvin lustig and they are just so great and colorful that i thought there must be some fun, colorful rooms to go along with them! have you ever found a book or magazine cover worthy of matching a room to?

lonny magazine's newest issue is out and is packed full of amazing images (as always!) I absolutely love the color and the really neat mix of items on the wall in the last photo. those two yellow pillows with the ships on them are soooo cool! they would look great in my house!

my other absolutely favorite thing is the photo with the most adorable little dog figurines on the mantle! that to me is just so classic and sweet. i believe i need to start collecting dog figurines... i'm on the lookout-we'll see how that goes!

retro maine cottage to LOVE!

This past weekend we were up in Maine and we went to visit my aunt and uncle's camp on the lake. This is the most amazing cottage you have ever seen! When they bought this place it was completely run down and an absolute mess! The two of them put long hours, a lot of hard work, and a lot of love into this huge renovation. They restored the entire thing to it's original 50's look and it is absolutely stunning! They worked hard to find all original 50's appliances and accessories. They kept the cottage's original furniture and reupholstered it-- it looks perfect! They even had this amazing old turquoise truck parked in the driveway! I could not stop snapping photos and I had to share it with all of you! Erin over at house of turquoise, one of my absolute favorite blogs that I can't live without, was also kind enough to post the photos!! I have a bunch more photos to post so be on the lookout... wait until you see the pink and white bathroom, it's adorable!
